How to add red food coloring to macarons
If you’re using powdered food coloring, add 1/4 tsp of red color to your initial egg whites. If you’re using gel food coloring, use a toothpick to get a little gel food coloring and mix together with your initial egg whites.
Once you’ve completely have mixed the food coloring into the egg whites, you can add your almond flour and icing sugar to make the first part of your macaron batter. After that, you’ll add your meringue into the almond paste.
Food coloring needs to be more intense of a color when you add it to your egg whites. The food coloring will be stretched with the almond flour, icing sugar, and meringue. The color will fade as you add more of your ingredients to your bowl.
